This guide covers the full version-five campaign: 123 locations across 13 regions, comprising a 105-location main story and 18 optional Hidden Commons locations. It includes all 31 multi-solution story mechanisms, three Classic navigation complexes, the living-world and Synod systems, character quests, artifact mastery, the playable closing weather, deep-map discoveries, and final outcomes. Allow roughly 8–12 hours for the main campaign or 12–18 hours for a completionist expedition; following the direct commands below is much faster.
Field basics
LOOK, EXAMINE, MAP, JOURNAL, SCORE, INVENTORY, and HINT do not advance time.
Travel, conversations, taking objects, and machinery work usually advance six minutes.
REST spends one supply and restores vigor plus some lantern charge.
REFILL LANTERN spends one oil and restores 50 lantern charge.
Your pack holds 18 bulk. DROP <item> leaves an item safely in the current room so you can retrieve it later.
Supplies cap at six. Search obvious lockers, baskets, cupboards, and field caches.
UNDO reverses the last turn-consuming command. The game also autosaves locally.
MODE STORY, MODE WAYFINDER, and MODE CLASSIC change guidance and pressure without resetting the campaign. MODE reports the current setting.
Each major mechanism has at least three solutions: an item solution, a clue solution, and usually a relationship solution.
From Act V onward, the stormglass cell can hold up to three relay charges. CHARGE STORMGLASS normally spends one oil; three regional stations also offer one free HARVEST STORMGLASS charge each.
Commands can be chained with a semicolon or syntactic THEN: for example, TAKE FUSE; THEN USE IT ON BREAKER. A chain stops safely if a step fails, asks for clarification, or reaches an ending.
The parser remembers IT, HIM, HER, and THEM. If a local noun is ambiguous, answer its numbered clarification or type the intended name; clarification itself costs no time.
WEATHER, WORLD, OPPORTUNITIES, PROMISES, CONSEQUENCES, COAST LEDGER, and EPILOGUE inspect the living coast without advancing time. After the Answering Coast opens, WHERE IS <name> locates a roaming coast NPC.
SYNOD WATCH, CLOSING WATCH, and COMMONS CATALOG inspect the v5 patrol, late-game crisis, and artifact-mastery records without advancing time.
On mobile, the prompt and touch-navigation controls remain available without a page scrollbar. Long transcripts, maps, the journal, settings, and the Living Coast Ledger scroll within their own panels.
Field modes and interaction depth
Story shows full suggestions, surveys ordinary rooms across visited regions, reduces attrition, and permits rewind. Wayfinder is the default: contextual suggestions, discovered-room mapping, baseline resource costs, and up to forty recent undo snapshots. Classic hides suggested commands, restricts the map to the current location and adjoining routes, increases resource pressure, disables undo, and activates three navigation complexes. A mode change is free and never alters story progress.
All seven scenery interactions below are free observations. They work on every feature named by LOOK; explicit puzzle actions still take priority.
| Interaction | Accepted forms | Example | | --- | --- | --- | | Examine | `EXAMINE`, `INSPECT`, `X`, `LOOK AT` | `EXAMINE DROWNED BELLS` | | Read | `READ`, `STUDY`, `DECIPHER` | `READ TIDE MARKS` | | Listen | `LISTEN TO`, `HEAR` | `LISTEN TO SPEAKING TUBE` | | Smell | `SMELL`, `SNIFF` | `SNIFF AT WATERLOGGED PAGES` | | Touch | `TOUCH`, `FEEL` | `FEEL COPPER LINING` | | Move | `MOVE`, `SHIFT`, `PUSH`, `PULL`, `LIFT` | `PUSH VOTING BENCHES` | | Use | `USE`, `OPERATE`, `TEST` | `OPERATE COMMON GAUGE` |
An item-on-target command such as USE RATCHET ON WHEEL is always offered to its authored puzzle first. If no puzzle accepts it, the same vocabulary can still produce a specific physical observation.
Classic navigation and guaranteed recoveries
Use SURVEY ROUTE, READ ROUTE, STUDY LANDMARKS, or EXAMINE ROUTE MARKS for a free current reading.
Keeper's Circuit, Underworks: the dispatch sign says UNSIGNED HAND · BRASS ALTAR · FALLING WING · THEN DESCEND. From the Axis Vestibule use EAST, SOUTH, WEST, SOUTH. A false final descent loops safely to the Axis Vestibule, where the complete clue is available again.
Turning Service Orbit, First Barometer: the current pointer changes every advancing turn. At the Service Orbit, LOOK or SURVEY ROUTE, then immediately follow the displayed direction: TIDE points north, GLASS east, and THUNDER south. A wrong spoke reaches the Foothold or Hinge Vault, both of which retain an ordinary route back.
Tide Thread, Nameless Shoals: EAST from the Tide Belfry crosses only on a FALLING tide; WEST from the Namesake Buoy returns only at LOW water. A blocked attempt safely consumes one turn and advances the four-step tide. SOUND RETURN BELL, RING RETURN BELL, HAIL TIDE FERRY, or SIGNAL TIDE FERRY always returns to the Fog Chain.
No Classic navigation failure consumes an irreplaceable item, closes a required path, or traps the expedition.
Local save and diagnostic record
Autosave, SAVE, display settings, the in-game transcript—including entered command lines—and the v5 campaign state use this browser's local storage. No login is needed and the app does not transmit the record. Undo snapshots and the separate prompt-history buffer exist only in the current tab's memory.
The saved campaign includes private, local playtest counters so a tester can identify friction: accepted and rejected totals, advancing and free commands, hint, clarification, undo, and mode-change counts, busy rooms, and at most forty normalized parser-miss phrases capped at 120 characters each. Enter PLAYTEST REPORT for the current summary. Clearing this site's browser storage removes the saved expedition, settings, and these diagnostics together.
Living-world field guide
Weather advances deterministically with turn-consuming actions. WEATHER reports the current front, local condition, watch, and world tick; WORLD summarizes the front, active response windows, promises, and lasting consequences. On every sixth advancing world tick, exposed travel can cost one or two vigor while a clear break can restore two. This cadence is deterministic, travel never drops you below one vigor, and no front hard-blocks a route. Later infrastructure such as the stormrail, accords, star bridge, and balanced Crown removes the matching regional exposure cost.
Four live opportunities appear as the main story opens the relevant coast systems: the answering watch at Signal Steps, the dry-clinic run at the Dry Infirmary, three lamps in the fog at Rescue Inlet, and the rain-copy window at Mara's Archive. Use:
OPPORTUNITIESto see their destinations and remaining advancing turns. Reaching the named destination inside its window answers the call. If you miss one, completing its associated public work still recovers what can be recovered; the delay remains honestly recorded.
Ilex, Ana, Nim, and Mara accept explicit field promises while present. Use PROMISE TO ILEX, PROMISE TO ANA, PROMISE TO NIM, or PROMISE TO MARA, then check PROMISES. Their corresponding duties are the answering line, Shelter Accord, Passage Accord, and Recovery Accord. A missed deadline does not make the game unwinnable: completing the duty later repairs the promise while retaining the delay in memory.
After their accords, coast NPCs walk deterministic duty circuits instead of remaining permanently in one room. If this guide sends you back to someone who has moved, use:
WHERE IS ILEX
WHERE IS ANA
WHERE IS NIM
WHERE IS MARASynod survey encounters
After the Answering Coast opens, three Synod teams move through deterministic, published circuits. SYNOD WATCH or SURVEYORS reports total alert, public standing, the local signal, and each patrol's current location. LOOK also warns when a team is present, approaching, or has just departed.
When a survey is present, choose one noncombat response:
EVADE SURVEYORS
DISTRACT PATROL
BARGAIN WITH PATROL
EXPOSE SURVEYORS
HELP SURVEYORSPrepared routes make evasion cleaner; an appropriate carried signal can strengthen DISTRACT PATROL WITH <item>; community trust strengthens bargaining; public evidence strengthens EXPOSE SURVEYORS WITH <record>; salvage, relationships, and shared-load repairs strengthen help. Every method leaves passage open. An improvised result may cost vigor, supplies, or salvage and leave an alert mark, but a later public exposure, accord, or act of solidarity can repair that encounter without erasing it. If you take another advancing action while a patrol is present, the unanswered inspection is recorded and alert rises; this is pressure, never a softlock.
COAST LEDGER opens the complete audit: exploration, mechanisms, relationships, evidence, secrets, all thirteen communities, readiness, promises, opportunities, consequences, and unresolved work. EPILOGUE provides a textual provisional audit before the final choice and a tailored epilogue afterward. Thirteen bespoke profiles cover the four earlier Meridian records and the nine Living Coast results.
Spoiler-light campaign order
Explore Bellmouth and open the drowned archive.
Climb Rainstairs, recover Orra’s three traces, and activate the Hollow Meridian.
Make a first choice for Bellmouth. This opens the Underworks; it is no longer the end of the game.
Cross the Pendulum Bridge and Three-Way Lock to reach the Dispatch Rotunda.
Explore the Morrow Fen, Aerial Cloister, and Salt Ledger in any order.
Recover any two regional seals to open Confluence. Recover all three for the strongest final possibilities.
Stabilize the Memory Turbine and reach the Open-Sky Spillway.
At the Open-Sky Spillway, choose a provisional measure. The farther coast will test its consequences; this is not the ending.
Repair the Lantern Littoral's evacuation rail and turn its one-way warning lamps into an answering network.
Explore Emberglass Weald, the Nameless Shoals, and Hushward Vale in any order. Ratify any two material accords to reach the First Barometer; ratify all three for the strongest endings.
Restore Hinge-3, recover the erased sunset clause, and reconstruct the founding compact.
Open the Civic Crown, establish a living quorum, and stabilize its physical load.
Before the final choice, optionally finish the Hidden Commons clues gathered across all thirteen regions, restore five cross-region mechanisms, and open the Orrery Underhall beneath the Crown. Authenticate and either keep or publicly catalog its eighteen artifacts.
Survive three closing watches: answer Bellmouth and Emberglass, keep the Littoral, Shoals, and Hushward lines open, then return their load to the Crown. All six tasks remain recoverable after their first window.
Make the genuinely final choice at the Vane of the Living Coast.

ASK KESH TO BRIDGE THE CHANNEL with Kesh’s trust.
BUILD DUMMY CHANNEL with two salvage bundles.
Then:
SOUTH
READ ORIGINAL PURPOSE
EASTYou have reached the Open-Sky Spillway and the campaign's first coast-wide choice. It matters, but it is a provisional measure, not the ending.
16. Choose the provisional measure
Choose one command:
OPEN THE COMMON MEASURE makes forecast public, but the farther coast answers that warning alone is not safety.
FULFILL ORRA'S LAST MEASURE carries Orra's prepared protocol outward. At this stage it still cannot speak for communities you have not met.
CROWN NERA AS KEEPER, CROWN KESH AS KEEPER, or CROWN SABLE AS KEEPER requires that person's trust.
CROWN MYSELF AS KEEPER gives you one optional, single-use keeper override later in the Civic Crown.
SEVER THE SYNOD records the Unbound Coast if all three seals are seated, the council is convened, and the ledger is published. Otherwise it records the Cost of Silence and darkens the coastal return line until you repair it.
TURN THE STORM SEAWARD immediately strikes people in the Nameless Shoals. You must rescue a drift crew before Passage can be ratified.
The game remembers this measure and its consequences, but every final option remains open for reconsideration. For a straightforward route, choose:
OPEN THE COMMON MEASURE
EAST
EASTThe first EAST crosses the Spillway Causeway; the second reaches Ilex Marr at the Signal Steps.
Act V — Lantern Littoral
The Littoral establishes the new campaign's central point: a warning is useful only when people have somewhere to go, a way to get there, and help afterward.
17. Ilex Marr and the answering line
TALK TO ILEX
ASK ILEX ABOUT DARK LAMPSIf your provisional SEVER THE SYNOD produced the Cost of Silence, repair its dark return line now with either:
ASK ILEX TO REBUILD RETURN LINEafter earning Ilex's first trust, or:
SPLICE RETURN LINEwhich spends one salvage. The stormrail cannot carry you east until this repair is complete. Other provisional measures leave the line live.

ENTER FLEET TOTAL 27 — requires the Tide Belfry census.
ASK NIM TO SPEAK THE UNCOUNTED NAMES — requires at least two Nim trust.
Then go EAST to the Rescue Inlet. If your provisional measure turned the storm seaward, rescue the struck crew by one of three methods:
RESCUE DRIFT CREW — spends one supply.
CALL ANA FOR RESCUE INSTRUCTIONS — requires at least two Ana trust.
ASK NIM TO LEAD RESCUE — requires Nim's first trust.
No rescue command is needed after another provisional measure. Once the passage is safe:
EAST
TAKE OFFSHORE REGISTER
READ OFFSHORE REGISTER
RATIFY PASSAGE ACCORDThe fleet gives you the blue passage-witness ribbon. Reading the offshore register is optional, but changes the final seaward outcome from ignorance to a fully informed choice.

TRAVEL TO LANTERN EXCHANGEResources and fast travel on the Answering Coast
The new one-use public caches are:
Public Kitchen: SEARCH COMMUNAL STORES for two supplies.
Dry Infirmary: SEARCH MEDICAL CHEST for two supplies.
Drift Market: SEARCH FERRY LOCKER for one supply and one oil.
Recovery Commons: ACCEPT FIELD RATIONS for two supplies.
Service Orbit: SEARCH FIELD CACHE for one supply, two oil, and one salvage.
Keeper Apse: SEARCH SUPPLY CABINET for one supply.
The stormglass cell holds zero to three charges. CHARGE STORMGLASS at the Breaker House, Mirror Kiln, Tide Belfry, or Signal Orchard spends one oil for one charge. The Kiln, Belfry, and Orchard each also allow one free HARVEST STORMGLASS. Stormglass is optional: the Lantern Matrix can spend one charge and the Crown's Load Shear can spend three.
Once the Passage Accord is ratified, use:
TRAVEL TO LANTERN EXCHANGEat the Outer Anchorage. The same command works from Ember Court once Shelter and Passage are ratified, and from Recovery Commons once Recovery and Passage are ratified.

PLAY 3 1 3 ON HINGE RELAY — requires the Service Orbit chime.
ASK LATCH TO WAKE HINGE — requires that you woke Latch-9 and asked its name in Act II.
For the strongest ending and Hinge's relationship quest:
TALK TO HINGE
ASK HINGE ABOUT NAME
CALL LATCH THROUGH SERVICE LINE
NORTH
TAKE SUNSET CLAUSE
READ SUNSET CLAUSE
NORTHThe call to Latch is optional and requires both automatons to have chosen names. The important revelation is that the First Barometer joined every warning to Shelter, Passage, and Recovery, granted emergency authority for only nine years, and treated silence as refusal—not assent.
28. Compact Loom
Choose one way to reconstruct the founding compact:
PLACE THREE WITNESS RIBBONS IN COMPACT LOOM — requires all three accords and their ribbons.
RECITE SUNSET CLAUSE — requires both the read founder cylinder and the read sunset clause.
ASK HINGE TO TESTIFY — requires at least two accords and trusted Hinge-3.
Then:
EAST
TAKE CROWN KEY
READ GOVERNANCE INSCRIPTION
UPAct VIII — The Civic Crown
29. Ninefold Gate
At the Crown Threshold, go EAST and choose one solution:
USE CROWN KEY ON NINEFOLD GATE — consumes the key.
SET VANES TO PUBLIC LOCAL VOLUNTARY — requires the inscription at the Crown Aperture.
ASK WARD COUNCIL TO OPEN NINEFOLD GATE — requires the Act IV council and at least two accords.
USE KEEPER OVERRIDE — only if your provisional measure was CROWN MYSELF AS KEEPER; see the warning below.
Then go EAST to the Public Floor.
30. Quorum Dais
The eastern branch tests whether the Crown has legitimate authority. If you are following the all-room route in the next section, note these solutions now but take the northern branch first; it returns you to the Quorum Dais afterward. Choose one solution there:
PLACE WITNESS RIBBONS ON DAIS — requires any two ratified accords.
DECLARE SILENCE IS NOT CONSENT — requires any two accords, the reconstructed founding truth, and the published ledger.
CALL THE LIVING COUNCIL — requires any two accords and six qualifying trusted voices.
USE KEEPER OVERRIDE — available only under your provisional self-keeper measure and only if unused.
This sets the ordinary living quorum needed to reach the final vane. The stronger full quorum is tracked separately: it requires all three accords, Hinge-3's chosen name, ten qualifying voices, and no keeper override.
Qualifying voices are Tamsin, Kesh, Nera, Moss, Vey, Sable, Latch-9, rescued Eren, Ilex, Ana, Nim, Mara, and Hinge-3. Each NPC except Eren must have at least two trust; Eren's rescue itself counts.
31. Load Shear
The north and south branches from the Public Floor meet at the Load Shear. For a route that visits every Crown room and collects both clues and gear:
NORTH
TAKE GOVERNOR BRAID
SEARCH SUPPLY CABINET
EAST
READ LOAD TABLE
SOUTHChoose one Load Shear solution:
USE GOVERNOR BRAID ON LOAD SHEAR — consumes the braid from the Keeper Apse.
ROUTE LOAD 3 3 3 — requires the load table at the Offshore Lens.
ASK KESH AND ANA TO BALANCE THE LOAD — requires at least two trust with both.
DISCHARGE THREE STORMGLASS INTO SHEAR — requires a full three-charge cell and spends all three.
USE KEEPER OVERRIDE — available only under your provisional self-keeper measure and only if unused.
To visit the Severance Walk and then solve the quorum:
WEST

EASTAfter solving the Quorum Dais, continue:
SOUTH
EASTThe Covenant Engine opens the Vane of the Living Coast only when both livingQuorum and crownStable are complete.
Keeper override warning
CROWN MYSELF AS KEEPER at the provisional spillway gives you exactly one USE KEEPER OVERRIDE. It can bypass the Ninefold Gate, Quorum Dais, or Load Shear, but never more than one. Using it marks that mechanism complete while proving imposed authority is not consent. It permanently prevents a full quorum, Orra's renewed covenant, and the prepared safe-severance ending. Save it only for a deliberately compromised route.
Optional deep map — The Hidden Commons
The Hidden Commons is not a ninth act or a detached postgame dungeon. Its eighteen rooms are concealed inside all thirteen established regions, and its five mechanisms connect records that the main authorities separated. Nothing here is required for a standard final outcome. Completing it adds score, eighteen collectible treasures or lost records, cross-region shortcuts, a richer Living Coast Ledger, and Orra's most private surviving annotation.
You can begin the first clues in Bellmouth, but the full route cannot finish until the Civic Crown is open. The cleanest completionist approach is to collect each region's record while following the main walkthrough, then solve each mechanism when all of its evidence is available. Use COAST LEDGER at any time to see separate totals for hidden locations, treasures, lost records, mysteries, and meta-puzzles.
Each mechanism has three approaches:
An item method, usually requiring records from any two linked regions.
A clue method, requiring you to read or hear all three linked records.
An NPC method, using a trusted person's practical knowledge. The final mechanism uses the living council in place of a single NPC.
Hidden mechanism 1 — The Common Gauge
At Bellmouth's Undertide Walk, investigate the flood lines:
SEARCH SEVENTH TIDE MARK
READ TIDE-COURT MINUTES
TAKE BELLFOUNDER'S TIDE TOKEN
TAKE TIDE-COURT MINUTES

AUTHENTICATE STORM-PRISM LEDGER
DOWNReturn to Undertide Walk, reopen the seventh tide mark, and use the complete three-part definition of a forecast:
SEARCH SEVENTH TIDE MARK
SET COMMON GAUGE TO TIDE GLASS THUNDERAlternate solutions are:
USE STORM-PRISM LEDGER ON COMMON GAUGE while carrying the ledger.
ASK KESH ABOUT COMMON GAUGE in Kesh's Workshop after reading the tide-court minutes and earning at least one Kesh trust.
The repaired gauge opens two remote counterweights. First go EAST from Tide Court Below:
EAST
READ WATERPROOF BROADSHEETS
TAKE UNDERTOW TYPE-MOULD
AUTHENTICATE UNDERTOW TYPE-MOULD
WEST
WESTThis visits the Foundry Undertow, where old warnings still retain an answer column. Later, from the Underworks Counterweight Spine:
SEARCH BEHIND COUNTERWEIGHTS
READ CARRIER LOG
TAKE THREE-HANDED COMMONS KEY
AUTHENTICATE THREE-HANDED COMMONS KEY
NORTHThis records the Common Load Shaft and prepares the second mechanism. Once the gauge is balanced, a service stair also links the hidden Rainstairs loft and Underworks shaft.
Hidden mechanism 2 — The Mutual-Aid Chain
Collect three accounts of aid moving according to need rather than debt.
At the Morrow Fen's Silt Nursery:
SEARCH SEED BASKETS
READ LIVING SEED COVENANT
TAKE LIVING SEED COVENANT
AUTHENTICATE LIVING SEED COVENANT
EASTAt Emberglass Weald's Cinder Orchard:

WESTAt the Lantern Littoral's Coastward Maproom:
USE ROUTE TAGS ON SCHOOL MAP
READ WEATHER PRIMERS
TAKE NIGHT-SCHOOL WEATHER PRIMERS
AUTHENTICATE NIGHT-SCHOOL WEATHER PRIMERS
SOUTHIf you no longer carry the route tags, reading the tide-court minutes provides the alternate entrance command TRACE ERASED SCHOOL ROUTE.
Return to the Underworks Counterweight Spine, enter the Common Load Shaft, and connect all three practices:
SEARCH BEHIND COUNTERWEIGHTS
ROUTE ROOT HEARTH LAMP
NORTHAlternate solutions are:
USE COMMONS KEY ON AID WHEEL while carrying the three-handed key and after reading any two of the three regional records.
ASK ANA ABOUT MUTUAL AID CIRCUIT at the Dry Infirmary with at least two Ana trust and any two records.
The restored chain opens the Root Parliament. Reenter the Seed Covenant Vault from the Silt Nursery and go north:
SEARCH SEED BASKETS
NORTH
READ LIVING BALLOTS
TAKE ROOT PARLIAMENT BALLOT
AUTHENTICATE ROOT PARLIAMENT BALLOTIts visible amendment branches reveal a form of consent that can change without rewriting dissent out of history. Restored aid carriers also connect the Root Parliament, Cold House, and Night School as optional cross-region routes.
Hidden mechanism 3 — The Witness Constellation
Recover testimony from fixed shore, moving water, and the first recorded storm.
At the Aerial Cloister's Thunder Library:
READ FORBIDDEN SHELF
LISTEN TO UNSCORED TESTIMONY
TAKE UNSUNG WITNESS CHIME
AUTHENTICATE UNSUNG WITNESS CHIME

The eastern echo door now opens:
EAST
LISTEN TO GLASS BIRDS
TAKE ECHO-ROOST FEATHER
AUTHENTICATE ECHO-ROOST FEATHERThe Echo Roost amplifies the quietest voice rather than the presiding one. Its public perch provides an optional DOWN shortcut to the Cloud Oculus; the linked testimony capstan also connects the First Rain Archive to the Drifter Chapel.
Hidden mechanism 4 — The Unwritten Ledger
Restore the meanings and replies removed from three official archives.
At the Salt Ledger's Index Hall:
SEARCH MISSING ZERO DRAWER

AUTHENTICATE COUNTERSEAL RUBBING
RESTORE UNWRITTEN ACCOUNTAlternate solutions are:
USE ZERO LEAF ON UNWRITTEN ACCOUNT RAIL while carrying the leaf and after reading any two linked records.
ASK SABLE ABOUT UNWRITTEN LEDGER in the Salt Ledger Auditorium with at least two Sable trust and any two records.
The annotation carrier opens west from the Counterseal Chamber:
WEST
READ COURT RULE
TAKE OPEN-MARGIN STAMP
AUTHENTICATE OPEN-MARGIN STAMP
SOUTHThe Open Margin Court preserves an affected community's correction beside the official account. Its south stair returns to the Source Well; restored hidden lines also connect it with the Zero Annex and Hushward Open Stack.
Hidden mechanism 5 — The Hospitality Circuit
This capstone requires the Common Gauge, Mutual-Aid Chain, Witness Constellation, and Unwritten Ledger. For the ordinary clue or guestbook methods, ratify all three material accords as well.
At the Civic Crown's Public Floor:
READ SCRATCHED PUBLIC TILE
READ PUBLIC GALLERY GUESTBOOK
TAKE PUBLIC GALLERY GUESTBOOK
AUTHENTICATE PUBLIC GALLERY GUESTBOOK
OPEN HOSPITALITY CIRCUITAlternate solutions are:
USE GALLERY GUESTBOOK ON HOSPITALITY CIRCUIT after restoring all four earlier hidden systems and ratifying all three accords.
CALL LIVING COUNCIL TO HOST THE UNCOUNTED after restoring all four systems and forming the full quorum.
The four lamps represent shared measure, mutual aid, plural witness, and an answerable record. When they are lit, descend:
DOWN
READ ORRA'S LAST ANNOTATIONThis reaches the eighteenth hidden location, the Orrery Underhall. Orra did not conceal a flawless constitution there. She left an empty bearing and a warning not to install her in it: a renewable system must leave room for the next arrival to change what its builders called complete.
For full deep-map completion, take every named object in the hidden rooms. The Living Coast Ledger should report 18/18 hidden locations, 9/9 working artifacts, 9/9 lost records, 18/18 mysteries, and 5/5 cross-region mechanisms.
Artifact mastery — keep it or open the catalog
Each of the eighteen Hidden Commons objects has three states:
Discovered: TAKE <artifact> enters it in the provisional register.
Authenticated: while carrying it in its origin room, type AUTHENTICATE <artifact>. Reading or examining the artifact itself in that room performs the same check when applicable. Authentication checks its physical provenance and costs no time.
Catalogued: after opening the Orrery Underhall, use CATALOG <artifact> or DEPOSIT <artifact> there. This permanently removes it from your pack and transfers its benefit to the named community. CATALOG ALL or DEPOSIT ALL ARTIFACTS deposits every carried, authenticated object at once.
COMMONS CATALOG, OPEN MARGIN CATALOG, TREASURES, or ARTIFACT REGISTER reports found, authenticated, deposited, and paired totals. The choice is real: an authenticated artifact kept in the pack supplies its field benefit—weather protection, stronger cross-readings, route or witness help, emergency seed, or improved refuge recovery—while a deposit gives up that portable aid for permanent public readiness and mastery points. Deposits cannot be reclaimed.
The nine provenance pairs are:
| Pair | Working artifact | Lost record | | --- | --- | --- | | Open Passage | bellfounder's tide token | tide-court minutes | | Answered Warning | undertow type-mould | night-school weather primers | | Many Readings | storm-prism ledger | first-rain testimony strip | | Mutual Provision | three-handed commons key | living seed covenant | | Preserved Dissent | root parliament ballot | counterseal rubbing | | Unsung Witnesses | unsung witness chime | drifter witness roll | | Quietest Arrival | echo-roost feather | cold-house guest register | | Open Account | open-margin stamp | uncut zero leaf | | Admission Without Debt | public gallery guestbook | open-stack relief index |
Mastery scoring is fixed: one point for discovery, two for authentication, eight for permanent deposit, four for each completed pair, and sixteen for the complete collection, for exactly 250/250. The eighteenth deposit triggers The Uncounted Commons. At the Underhall, follow it with either command for the one-time public dedication:
HOLD COMMONS CEREMONY
DEDICATE UNCOUNTED COMMONSOld saves do not invent deposits. Any Hidden Commons object already in legacy inventory or the historical taken list migrates as discovered and authenticated, ready to keep, recover if dropped, or deposit deliberately.
Optional contextual cross-readings
These commands are not needed to solve the mechanisms and do not consume time, but connect artifacts across regions:
USE BELLFOUNDER'S TIDE TOKEN ON COMMON GAUGE
USE UNDERTOW TYPE-MOULD ON FINAL EXERCISE
USE LIVING SEED COVENANT ON SEALED AID CARRIER
USE ECHO-ROOST FEATHER ON FIRST-RAIN TESTIMONY
USE UNCUT ZERO LEAF ON OPEN-STACK RELIEF INDEX
USE ROOT PARLIAMENT BALLOT ON HOSPITALITY CIRCUIT
Major late-game spoilers — the closing weather
Spoiler boundary: the route below reveals the playable final crisis, its six tasks, all prepared solutions, and every guaranteed fallback. Stop here if you want the coast's last test to arrive unannounced.
The final outcome command no longer resolves immediately. Once the Covenant Engine has opened the final vane, entering or acting in the late Crown starts three closing watches. If you reach the Vane first, attempting a final measure also starts them. Use this free status command after every completed task:
CLOSING WATCHThe first two watches allow 72 advancing turns each; the Crown watch allows 42. The direct route below fits comfortably inside those limits. A missed window changes a task from active to degraded but never locks it: perform the same task later and it becomes recovered. CLOSING WATCH names every valid task room. Crisis routes remain passable, and resource shortfalls become visible strain rather than failure. Your Synod public standing is recorded when the crisis begins: trusted public work strengthens consent and accountability, while negative standing adds visible friction, but neither state withdraws a route or ending.
Closing watch one — Bellmouth and shelter
From the Vane of the Living Coast, follow the main route back to the Chain Chapel. The exact Wayfinder route is:
WEST; NORTH; WEST; WEST; WEST; DOWN
WEST; SOUTH; SOUTH; WEST; SOUTH; DOWN
WEST; WEST; WEST; WEST; WEST; WEST; WEST
NORTH; NORTH; NORTH; NORTH; NORTH; NORTH; NORTH; NORTH; UP
WEST; WEST; WEST; WEST; WEST; DOWNIn Classic mode, already solving the Service Orbit and Keeper's Circuit on the outward journey leaves this return route stable. At Chain Chapel, use the strongest ordinary answer:
ASK TAMSIN TO STAFF THE RETURN BELLThis requires trusted Tamsin and the repaired sluice. A completed Common Gauge plus its record instead allows ROUTE THE BELL THROUGH TIDE COURT. The prerequisite-free recovery is RING THE RETURN BELL BY HAND.
Continue from Chain Chapel to the Refuge Foundry:
UP; EAST; EAST; EAST; EAST; EAST; DOWN
SOUTH; SOUTH; SOUTH; SOUTH; SOUTH; SOUTH; SOUTH; SOUTH
EAST; EAST; EAST; EAST; EAST; EAST; EAST
SOUTH; SOUTH; EAST; SOUTH; EAST; EASTAt the Refuge Foundry or Dry Infirmary:
ASK ANA TO OPEN EVERY REFUGEThis requires trusted Ana and the Shelter Accord. The Hidden Commons answer is OPEN THE COLD HOUSE CARRIER; it uses either the mutual-aid chain or the Cold House/Seed Covenant evidence. The unconditional recovery is CARRY REFUGE COTS BY HAND. Completing both first-watch tasks opens watch two automatically.
Closing watch two — replies, passage, and recovery
Return from Refuge Foundry to Lantern Exchange:
WEST; WEST; NORTH; WEST; NORTH; NORTHAt Lantern Exchange or Signal Steps:
ASK ILEX TO BRACE THE ANSWERING MESHThis strongest answer requires trusted Ilex and the restored lamp mesh. RUN THE STORMRAIL RELAY SHUTTLE is a solid powered-rail alternative. WALK THE ANSWERING LAMP LINE is always available.
From Lantern Exchange, travel east through Ledgerless Quay, Fog Chain, Tide Belfry, Namesake Buoy, and Rescue Inlet to the Outer Anchorage:
EAST; EAST; EAST; EAST; EAST; EAST
ASK NIM TO LEAD THE NAMED CHANNELIn Classic mode, an eastward Tide Belfry attempt waits safely until FALLING water. Nim's answer requires trust, the registered fleet, and the Passage Accord. RAISE THE DRIFTER WITNESS ROLL uses the Hidden Commons witness line; HAND SIGNAL THE MOVING HARBOUR is the unconditional fallback.
With the Passage Accord, return immediately:
TRAVEL TO LANTERN EXCHANGE
NORTH; NORTH; NORTH; NORTH; EAST; NORTHAt Recovery Commons or Mara's Archive:
ASK MARA TO RELEASE ANSWERABLE RELIEFThis requires trusted Mara, the released archive, and the Recovery Accord. COUNTERSEAL THE RECOVERY ROLL uses the restored hidden ledger plus a counterseal, Open Stack index, or zero leaf. COPY RECOVERY ORDERS BY HAND always works. Watch three begins after all three lines are answered.
Closing watch three — the common load
From Recovery Commons, take the public shortcut and climb back to the Covenant Engine:
TRAVEL TO LANTERN EXCHANGE
UP; NORTH; EAST; NORTH; NORTH; EAST; UP
EAST; EAST; EAST; SOUTHFor a fully prepared main-story expedition:
RETURN THE LOAD TO THE LIVING QUORUMThis requires the full quorum, stable Crown, and all three material accords. If the entire deep map is mastered and Orra's last annotation has been read, the strongest Hidden Commons answer is:
LEAVE THE VANE OPEN TO THE NEXT ARRIVALThe guaranteed recovery is HOLD THE FINAL VANE OPEN. Completing this task ends the closing weather. Six on-time solutions of quality two or three produce the Ceremony of Six Answering Lines; full deep-map mastery changes it to the Ceremony of the Empty Bearing. Return EAST to the Vane and choose the actual final outcome below.
Final outcomes — Vane of the Living Coast
Unlike the spillway measure, these are true endings. They become available only after all six closing tasks are resolved or recovered. Your provisional choice and the quality, timeliness, and strain of the closing watch remain part of the epilogue, but you may affirm the earlier choice or choose differently.
Common Weather
OPEN THE COMMON MEASUREThis always creates a public two-way forecast once the final vane is open. With all three accords, warnings travel with counted shelter, named passage, stocked recovery, and a renewal clock. With only two, the same outcome honestly displays the missing guarantee instead of pretending publication finished the work.
Orra's Last Measure — secret strongest outcome
FULFILL ORRA'S LAST MEASURERequirements:
Carry all five red letters: Underworks, Fen, Cloister, Ledger, and Confluence.
Seat all three regional seals in the Memory Turbine.
Wake Latch-9 and ask about its chosen name.
Convene the ward council and publish the true ledger.
Read Orra's relay protocol at her last camp and examine the Weather Heart's original purpose.
Ratify all three material accords.
Reconstruct the founding compact at the Compact Loom.
Wake Hinge-3 and ask about its chosen name.
Form a full quorum: all three accords, ten qualifying voices, and no keeper override.
Establish the ordinary living quorum and stabilize the Crown's load so the final vane is open.
The result does not turn Orra's writing into permanent law. It restores the principle she protected: emergency authority expires, silence is never assent, and living communities must be asked again.
A New Keeper
CROWN NERA AS KEEPER
CROWN KESH AS KEEPER
CROWN SABLE AS KEEPER
CROWN MYSELF AS KEEPERNera, Kesh, or Sable needs at least two trust; crowning yourself has no trust requirement. Each is a distinct ending with a visible nine-year renewal clock, but each leaves human judgment at a narrow point in the network.
The Unbound Coast / The Cost of Silence
SEVER THE SYNODThe prepared Unbound Coast requires all three accords, a full quorum, stable Crown load, the old ward council, the published ledger, and an open final vane. Local relays, refuges, ferries, and recovery stores then survive the handover. Missing any preparation produces The Cost of Silence: allocation ends, but the absent support becomes real storm damage.
The Debt Out of Sight
TURN THE STORM SEAWARDThe Crown protects inland districts by assigning the storm offshore. If you read the offshore register, it names the boats, families, farms, and rescue crews before obeying; if you did not, the epilogue records chosen ignorance. Either way, the outcome is the old sacrificial arithmetic in a new direction.
Replaying the final choice
After any final outcome, including after reloading the page, use:
RETURN TO CHOICEThis returns to the Vane of the Living Coast with expedition preparation and outcome history intact. UNDO also works during the same play session.
Optional Answering Coast character quests
These are not all required to finish, but they supply alternate puzzle methods, score, context, and voices for the full quorum.
Ilex Marr: TALK TO ILEX, ASK ILEX ABOUT DARK LAMPS, then return the maproom tags with GIVE ROUTE TAGS TO ILEX. A costly severance adds ASK ILEX TO REBUILD RETURN LINE.
Doctor Ana Dov: TALK TO ANA, ASK ANA ABOUT GLASSFEVER, then GIVE SALTWORT CUTTINGS TO ANA. At the Common Cistern, trusted Moss plus rescued Eren unlock CALL MOSS AND EREN THROUGH RELAY.
Captain Nim Vale: TALK TO NIM, ASK NIM ABOUT TAMSIN, and SHOW BELL NAMES TO NIM. At the Outer Anchorage, trusted Tamsin and Nim unlock CALL TAMSIN ON FERRY LINE.
Mara Oss: TALK TO MARA, ASK MARA ABOUT SILENCE, and SHOW SIGNED ORDER TO MARA. At the Recovery Commons, trusted Vey, Sable, and Mara unlock CALL VEY AND SABLE TO ARCHIVE.
Hinge-3: wake it, TALK TO HINGE, and ASK HINGE ABOUT NAME. If Latch-9 also chose its name, use CALL LATCH THROUGH SERVICE LINE in the Hinge Vault.
Continuing older saved games
All valid old saves migrate automatically to version five, including earlier choices, inventory, score, outcome history, story state, and living-world progress. Missing v5 systems begin in the backwards-compatible Wayfinder mode with fresh route, patrol, closing-watch, and local diagnostic records. Hidden Commons objects already carried or present in the historical taken list become discovered and authenticated, but none is silently deposited.
Version-one Bellmouth endings
If the save ended after RING MERIDIAN, STILL MERIDIAN, or OPEN EVERY THROAT, use:
CONTINUE EXPEDITIONThe original result remains in the record. You return to the Meridian Chamber with the Underworks route available and continue into Act II.
Version-two Spillway endings
If the save ended at the Open-Sky Spillway, use:
CONTINUE TO THE ANSWERING COASTThis preserves the recorded spillway outcome as your provisional measure, converts its ending score without double-counting, and opens the eastward Answering Coast route. Use RETURN TO CHOICE instead if you want to discard that saved spillway result and select a different provisional measure first.
Version-three and version-four expeditions
These resume in place with their parser context and living-coast record intact. They enter Wayfinder mode, preserve the stable routes used when those saves were made, and can opt into the new route complexes later with MODE CLASSIC. Synod patrols seed from the migrated world tick; the closing weather remains dormant until the late Crown trigger, so loading an old save never starts a deadline off-screen.
